I've only seen two films with Peter Chatel: Aldo Lado's WHO SAW HER DIE? (1972) and Reiner Werner Fassbinder's FOX AND HIS FRIENDS (1974). In both films this slim, charming actor portrayed corrupt bohemian types.
Chatel started out in German TV, appearing in the crime series DER KOMISSAR in 1969. More television roles followed. Chatel also enjoyed a brief film career in Italy, working for Giorgio Albertazzi and Aldo Lado. In 1971 Chatel had to leave Italy following a drug scandal.
Back in Germany he began a fruitful collaboration with Fassbinder, appearing in no less than seven films for the workaholic director, among them THE MERCHANT OF FOUR SEASONS (1971).
Around the same time Peter Chatel took to writing and directing for theatre. His plays were successful with both critics and the public.
Peter Chatel died at the age of 42 from AIDS.
I would like to know more about the man,but there isn't much on the web. Most of the above info comes from the German Wikipedia entry on Chatel.
